In der vorliegenden Untersuchung in den drei großen östlichen österreichischen Bundesländern mit einer unterschiedlichen Integrationsquote (Wien, Niederösterreich und Steiermark) wurden durch eine schriftliche Befragung die Erfahrungen der Eltern in der Beratung bei der Entscheidung über die Schulform und eventuelle Unterschiede in der Beratung zwischen den Bundesländern ermittelt. Es zeigte sich, dass sich ein großer Teil der Eltern in der Entscheidung über die Schulform unsicher und auf Beratung angewiesen fühlte. Nur einem Teil der Eltern wurde vermittelt, dass man sich bei der Wahl der Schulform primär nach ihren Wünschen richten würde: Hier bestanden deutliche Unterschiede zwischen den drei Bundesländern. In dem Bundesland mit der geringsten Integrationsquote bemühte man sich, die Eltern für den Unterricht in einer Sonderschule zu gewinnen, während umgekehrt in der Steiermark, dem Bundesland mit der höchsten Integrationsquote, die Eltern schon von Anfang an sehr von dem Unterricht in der Sonderschule als bester Lösung überzeugt sein mussten, damit diese Unterrichtsform auch realisiert wurde.

Counselling of parents of children with special educational needs regarding the choice of appropriate school type: Statements by parents.

In the present study, the experiences of parents in the counselling process were analyzed by means of questionnaires in the three greater eastern federal states of Austria which have a rather different share of inclusion (Vienna, Lower Austria, Styria). It could be shown, that the majority of the parents were rather insecure concerning the pending decision on the appropriate type of school for their child and felt dependent on advice by others. Only part of the parents had fully understood that the decision on their child's educational setting was primarily theirs and that the school would follow their wishes. Clear differences between the three states could be found: In Lower Austria, the state with the lowest level of inclusion, it was obvious that the counsellors tried to gain the parents' permission for the children's education in special schools. Contrarily, in Styria, the state with the highest share of inclusion, the parents had to be very convinced from the beginning that a special school would be the best solution for their child to gain access for their child there.
